Polluters Must Pay!
Hey guys I came across this article and found it to be pretty interesting and wanted to share. A few days ago, Champion Chemical Company located in Morganville, has agreed to pay over $1.4 million dollars in cleanup costs for the dangerous chemicals they have been pumping into the environment. The company sits on a 15 acre plot and operated as an oil reclamation processing plant which in turn produced arsenic and other harmful chemicals. A contaminated stream was found on site, which eventually drains into a nearby lake that is situated in the middle of wetlands and a heavily wooded area. Tests were run and the groundwater is also contaminated with elevated levels of arsenic. Apparently, there have been several previous attempts to clean up; however all have come to a standstill.
I personally don't think you can ever get something like this cleaned up, I mean the damage has already been done and is most likely irrevocable. I cannot understand how these company's get away with dumping these chemicals into our environment. It makes me think that there must be so many more places doing the same thing that we have no idea about!
What does everyone think about this? Is 1.4 million enough money to compensate for the damage that has already been done? This is an issue that I have been reading about for sometime now, so I am glad I was able to share with the rest of you. My reasoning for this is because I have a factory near my house that I believe may have been pumping these chemicals into a stream which runs through my property. I found a good lawyer that deals with superfund cleanup in New Jersey and was looking to perhaps contact them with other people in the surrounding area who this may be affecting!

Hi Dave,
I see that you have a similar issue to something I was dealing with. It is a shame that this kind of stuff is going on around our state and most of us do not even know about it! I've lived in New Jersey for my whole life and I have never even heard of that company. As to the answer to your question I don't think any amount of money is sufficient enough to compensate for the damage that has been done to our environment. To me is seems irrevocable and once something like this occurs, it would take endless amounts of time to filter itself out, even after countless hours of cleanup.
The issue I had was with a company dumping chemicals into a stream that empties into a small park next to a school I teach at. Your issue seems very serious as well as it runs right through your property! I live in southern NJ so there is a lot of farmland here that needs to be protected from companies like these. It looks like the lawyer that you suggested would be great for taking care of the situation to the best of their ability. If we can't completely clean up, the repsonsible parties should still pay an exuberant fine.
glad you take this as seriously as I do..good luck with your situation,
