  • Wisconsin Pro Bono and Community Legal Resources

America's Dairyland, the nickname by which Wisconsin is often referred, is a lovely land of rolling hills and vast farmlands. For about 10.7% of the state's 5.6 million residents, though, life is a lot less than perfect. Those people, who live at or below the U.S. federal poverty level, don't have the option of hiring an attorney; after all, doing so tends to be quite expensive. The state of Wisconsin is more than capable of helping such individuals, though, thanks to a wide network of pro bono services and community legal resources; learn more about them below.

    Pro Bono Services in Wisconsin

Unlike many other states, Wisconsin does not have a large network of pro bono organizations that are organized by its state bar association. That being said, contacting the State Bar of Wisconsin is one of the best first steps that a low-income Wisconsinite can make. By getting in touch with the state bar, such individuals can get referrals to lawyers who handle pro bono work.

    Wisconsin Community Legal Resources

Despite a lack of coordination by the state bar, there are many great organizations and community legal resources in the state of Wisconsin. Regardless of where you live in the state, you should be able to get in touch with an organization that is relatively nearby. In some cases, one organization may refer you to a different one, depending on various things. Keep in mind that most organizations have strict eligibility requirements that must be met before they will work with you.
