  • Arkansas Pro Bono & Community Legal Resources

The state of Arkansas has a population that hovers right around 2.8 million people. Of those people, approximately 17.9% live at or below the federal poverty level. Unlike people with a decent amount of income, those who live below the poverty level are at very high risk of not being protected when it comes to legal issues. Many times, impoverished individuals have to appear in court without competent legal counsel, advice or representation.

In Arkansas, three organizations handle pro bono services for people in need: Legal Aid of Arkansas (LAA), The Disaster Legal Assistance Project and The Center for Arkansas Legal Services. Legal Aid of Arkansas and the Center for Arkansas Legal Services work together to provide free legal services for low-income Arkansas citizens; these services are offered for non-criminal cases only. Victims of tornadoes and other natural disasters can turn to the Disaster Legal Assistance Project for help.
